Exit Test

When you finish the course, you need to take an Exit Test. Depending on your specific course, you can take this test either after a certain number of lessons or after a certain date. This Exit Test works the same as the Diagnostic Test. The test takes about 30 minutes and consists of six parts. Each part contains a text and a set of five questions. You can click Prev and Next to go backwards and forwards but you must select an answer for each question before you can submit your answers.

The more questions you get right, the harder the test gets. The more questions you answer incorrectly, the easier the test gets. At the end of the test, we recommend your level and show you how the Need to Read level compares against TOEIC and the Common European Framework language proficiency scale.

Need to Read organises the lessons into three broad levels: 1, 2 and 3. Each level is then sub-divided into bands. After the Exit Test, you will receive both a level and a more specific band. This is your reading level at the time you finish the course. If you take a new course, you can start at this level or test yourself again with a new Diagnostic Test.
